These are the Facts
Homelessness Facts 2011 Program Outcomes
  • 88,923 Chicagoans were homeless in the course of the 2009-10 school year
  • Per our 2009-10 analysis, families made up 45.8 percent of Chicago's homeless population, a total of 40,723 people. There were 28,345 children (31.9 percent) and 12,378 adults (13.9 percent). 
  • Unaccompanied youth (through age 17) made up 7.3 percent, or 6,463 youths.
  • Single adults made up 46.9 percent, or 41,737 single adults.

In 2011, RSSI served over 560 households, helped 89 househoulds with prevention assistance and provided over 12,000 services to our clients. Also, in 2011:
  • 91% of clients avoided unneccessary hospitalizations for the entire year
  • 95% of clients remained in supportive housing for at least one year
  • 100% of clients were assessed to see if they qualify for mainstream human service program benefits
  • 94% of clients remained out of inpatient substance abuse services
  • 100% of clients achieved at least two goals on the service plans
